Mini Race Report
Saturday Qualifying was windy and dry. Darren Bloomfield was clearly determined to make up for last year and TQed Rounds 1, 3 and 4. After 4 rounds the
Semis were full of the usual suspects, but in addition we had Victor Wilck from Sweden, a name I usually associate with Electric Touring Cars.
Sunday was not so good. Very heavy rain, plus a major power failure in the area just before dawn gave the managemant a few headaches, but power came back about 8am. Round 5 got under way and again Darren took TQ, so was able to throw away a round TQ. Pity he could not trade it for a Round TQ in Truggy.
Finals got under way on a wet but drivable track but more heavy rain meant the track had to close for pumping out after the A 1/16th. A drivers vote was taken to decide that further sub finals would be reduced to 10 minutes to allow time for more track pumping during the afternoon.
The Main final, now 30 minutes duration, was scheduled for 16:00, but Victor called a Time Out so the start was delayed by 10 minutes. Once the final got under way Darren left the rest of the field for dead, finishing a lap clear of Richard Taylor, who 6 or so seconds ahead of Victor Wilck
The rain was unwelcome, but the astroturf track, the sheer determination of Rallycross drivers plus the sterling efforts of the Club proved equal to the task of running the race. Well done guys!
